Common places

COMMON PLACES is an intervention carried out in parts of the Vitacura district of Santiago. Proverbs and common sayings were inscribed in bas-relief on long marble slabs and each bar was installed on the posterior part of a bench in each park. As a starting point, the work seeks to generate an encounter with the occupants of these public places, so as to the Project itself further like a type of evangelizing rite that disperses across the city, with monumental prospect, converting into a catalyst for public re-evangelization. During the installation of each bar, the artists seated themselves at either end of each bench, clearly distanced. This was photographically recorded, presenting the redefinition of urban spaces as active places where people can relate to each other through the public place of the proverbs, creating new ways of co-inhabiting and observing these generic spaces where usually the citizen becomes anonymous.
