Catalina Swinburn’s work attempts to reconcile different doctrines in a process of transculturalization and miscegenation, the union of the sacred and the secular. Previously used in rituals, her new series of woven paper works carry a spiritual history and resemble stitches of memory that remain; reflecting on catastrophes around the world where cultural sites are displaced or destroyed. Regenerating these narratives articulates a sense of urgency and a mode of resistance as we face a moment in time where established concepts come into question.
